Basic Coastal Cruising

This course prepares the student to sail and cruise safely in local waters as both skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat of about 30-34 feet during daylight hours in moderate to strong wind and sea conditions. You will build on the skills learned in the Basic Sailing & Seamanship course and acquire more advanced boat handling, safety and seamanship skills.

Comprises days three and four of the Six- or Eight-Day Course.
Two consecutive days 9:30am to 4:30pm · 1/2 hr lunch break · Prerequisite: Basic Sailing and Seamanship or special permission from Pacific Yachting Staff · Cost: Standard: $295.00 / Member $265.50.
A couple may close the course at two. Cost is $450 per person.

If 2 students want to privately close the Basic or Intermediate Coastal Cruising course, the cost is $450. each/ 2 day class.

Note- most students that complete 3 week-ends- Basic Sailing & Seamanship, Basic Coastal Cruising & Intermediate Coastal Cruising, need a 4 hr review & 2 hr check-out ( we have once a week) to satisfy the ASA practical requirements for the Basic Coastal Cruising level certification. In other words, it's likely you will be able to take out a boat as a bareboat skipper, with experienced crew, after 7 days.

Textbook: Cruising Fundamentals, Harry Munns- $20.47 (optional but highly recommended)included at no charge to (click) Members only.

Basic Coastal Cruising comprises days three and four of the Six or Eight-Day Course.

Note - Many students that take the 6 day course consecutively can usually pass the ASA practical requirements up to Basic Coastal Cruising in course time.

Most students that take 3 separate week-ends usually need to come back and take a (click)Basic Cruising Review course and/ or a 2 hr. practical check-out to pass the requirements up to Basic Coastal Cruising.

Most students that take the 8 day course consecutively can usually pass the ASA practical requirements up to Intermediate Bareboat in course time.

Most students that take 4 separate week-ends usually need to come back and take a review course and/ or a 2 hr. practical check-out to pass the requirements up to Bareboat .

Written exams, log book, and textbooks for certifications are extra:

American Sailing Association: $100 extra per person includes the textbooks- Sailing Fundamentals, Cruising fundamentals, ASA Logbook, and the two written exams- Basic Keelboat and Basic Coastal Cruising. If a student goes 8 days they can take the ASA Bareboat exam at $25.00 extra.

Members get the 2 textbooks, Sailing Fundamentals &Cruising fundamentals at no charge, thus their ASA exam package is only $60.00 extra.
