Basic Sailing
and Seamanship
This two-day course will
teach you the fundamentals
of sailing and seamanship.
A total of 12 hours of onboard instruction will provide you with
the skills and confidence you need to safely skipper and crew
a 22' to 27' tiller sailboat in light to moderate wind and sea
conditions on lakes or other protected bodies of water. Completion
of this class prepares you to take the ASA or US Sailing Basic
Keelboat Certification on tiller-steered boats.

Note: Weather permitting, we offer the Basic Sailing & Seamanship course every weekend throughout the year based on 3-4 students. If 2 students want to privately close the Basic class, the cost is $315. each. See below for complete discounted instruction packages.

What to bring-
Soft soled shoes, warm jacket and sweater, sunscreen, windbreaker, a lunch. Pacific Yachting provides comfortable lifejackets and foul weather gear if needed.

Written exams, log book, and textbooks for certifications are extra:
American Sailing Association: $100 extra per person includes the textbooks- Sailing Fundamentals, Cruising fundamentals, ASA Logbook, and the two written exams- Basic Keelboat and Basic Coastal Cruising. If a student goes 8 days they can take the ASA Bareboat exam at $25.00 extra.
Members get the 2 textbooks, Sailing Fundamentals &Cruising fundamentals at no charge, thus their ASA exam package is only $60.00 extra.
