Bareboat Chartering

This course prepares the student to charter a larger wheel steered auxiliary powered sailboat, sailing by day in coastal waters in moderate to strong wind and sea conditions. You will continue to build on the skills learned in the Basic Sailing and Seamanship, Basic Coastal Cruising and Intermediate Coastal Cruising courses. In addition, you'll embark on a short coastal passage where you'll practice coastal navigation and anchor or pick up a mooring. Completion of this class prepares you to take the ASA Bareboat Chartering Certification. This is a good course for those interested in chartering the Pacific Yachting Sailboats, as well as in many tropical locations that we can help arrange for you. The Bareboat Chartering class is excellent preparation for our Advanced Coastal Cruising and Piloting course.

Students who exhibit the requisite sailing and boat handling skills can usually incorporate a review/check-out into the last day of the Bareboat Chartering Course.

Topics covered:

Prerequisite: Intermediate Coastal Cruising and three-full days as skipper on Monterey Bay.

Format- Two consecutive days- Sat & Sun., 9:30 am-4:30 pm.

(Note: Students can optionally take any class during week-days if there's an opening in an 8 day course).
Cost (per person): Standard: $325 / Member: $292.50

A couple may close the course at two. Cost is $450 per person.

Prerequisite: Intermediate Coastal Cruising and three-full days as skipper on Monterey Bay after passing the practical check-out.

Textbooks: Cruising Fundamentals, Harry Munns, and Annapolis Book of Seamanship, John Rousmaniere.

Bareboat Chartering comprises days seven and eight of the Eight-Day Course.s two consecutive days. Completion of this class prepares you to take the ASA Bareboat Chartering Certification.

Note - Most students that take the 8 day course consecutively can usually pass the ASA practical requirements up to Bareboat in course time.

The Bareboat class is excellent prepartion for our Advanced Coastal Cruising& Piloting course.

What to bring- soft soled shoes, warm jacket and sweater, sunscreen, windbreaker & lunch. Pacific Yachting provides comfortable lifejackets and foul weather gear if needed.

Written exams, log book, and textbooks for certifications are extra:

American Sailing Association: $100 extra per person includes the textbooks- Sailing Fundamentals, Cruising fundamentals, ASA Logbook, and the two written exams- Basic Keelboat and Basic Coastal Cruising. If a student goes 8 days they can take the ASA Bareboat exam at $25.00 extra.

Members get the 2 textbooks, Sailing Fundamentals &Cruising fundamentals at no charge, thus their ASA exam package is only $60.00 extra.
